Air Source Heat Pumps for Tewkesbury and the Vale
Tewkesbury sits where two rivers meet, so where the outdoor unit goes matters more here than most places. We plan every install around your flood risk, your home and the grant you’re due: £7,500, or £9,000 for oil and LPG homes in the villages.

Planning a heat pump in a flood risk home
A heat pump’s outdoor unit sits at ground level, so in parts of Tewkesbury and the Vale it needs more thought than usual.
Check your risk
Look up your address on the government’s flood risk service and tell us what you find.
Raise the unit
A raised stand, wall brackets or higher ground, keeping it clear of likely flood water.
Keep electrics high
Connections, isolators and controls kept up, out of the way of water.
After a flood
Don’t switch it back on until it’s been checked by a qualified engineer.

Heat pumps in Tewkesbury’s old town and villages
Most heat pumps are permitted development, as long as they pass the MCS 020a noise check. In the borough’s conservation areas, including Tewkesbury itself, Winchcombe and Twyning, the unit can’t go on a wall or roof facing a road, or nearer the road than the house. Homes in the grounds of a listed building need permission.
Rules from the Planning Portal. Permitted development rights can be removed by a planning condition or an Article 4 Direction, so we check your address at the survey.

Heat pumps in Tewkesbury: common questions
From flood risk to off-gas villages, here’s what Tewkesbury homeowners ask us.
Where should the outdoor unit go in a flood risk home?
As high and as far from likely flood water as the site allows. That can mean a raised stand, wall brackets, or a spot on higher ground in the garden, with the electrical connections and controls kept up out of the way. Check your address on the government’s long-term flood risk service before your survey.
What should I do if flood water reaches my heat pump?
Switch the power off at the consumer unit only if it’s safe to do so, and don’t use the heat pump until it’s been checked. Flood water can damage the outdoor unit, the wiring and the controls. Call us or a qualified engineer to inspect it before it’s switched back on.
Are Tewkesbury’s villages off the gas grid?
Some are. Across Tewkesbury Borough, 4.8% of homes heat with oil only and 2.2% with LPG only, mostly in the villages. If your home has no mains gas connection and heats with oil or LPG, the grant is £9,000 until March 2027 instead of £7,500.
Do I need permission for a heat pump in Tewkesbury’s old town?
Possibly. Tewkesbury is one of the borough’s 14 conservation areas, so the unit can’t go on a wall or roof facing a road, or nearer the road than any part of the building. Many old-town buildings are listed, and permitted development doesn’t apply within a listed building’s grounds. You can check your address with the council’s online maps.
Do you install heat pumps across the Vale?
Yes. We cover Tewkesbury, Northway, Walton Cardiff and Wheatpieces, and villages from Twyning and Bredon to Deerhurst, Apperley and Ashleworth. We’re based in Gloucester, so the whole Vale is close by for surveys and servicing.
