Air Source Heat Pump FAQs
Will a heat pump work in cold weather?
Yes. Air source heat pumps are designed for UK winters and keep working well below freezing. We size every system using a heat loss calculation for your home, so it is built to keep you warm on the coldest days.
Are heat pumps noisy?
Modern units are quiet. You may hear a gentle hum from the outdoor unit when it is working hard, and we will recommend the best spot for it to keep noise to a minimum for you and your neighbours.
Will I need new radiators?
Not always. Heat pumps run at lower temperatures than boilers, so some rooms may need a larger radiator. Your survey will show exactly which radiators, if any, need changing.
How much space do I need?
You will need space outside for the unit, usually against an outside wall, and space inside for a hot water cylinder. We check both during your survey.
How long does installation take?
Most installations take a few days. We will give you a clear timeline before any work starts.
Do I qualify for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant of up to £9,000?
Most homeowners in England and Wales replacing a gas, oil or electric heating system can apply. You will usually need a valid EPC, and the installation must be carried out by an MCS certified installer like us (MCS No. NAP68548). We check your eligibility and handle all the grant paperwork for you. Take our free home check to find out if your home is suitable.
How much could I save?
It depends on your home and your current heating system. Use our heat pump calculator for an instant estimate of your install cost, grant and running costs.
