Use your own solar in the evening
Most homes use the most power when the sun’s going down. A battery stores the day’s spare and gives it back then, with 0% VAT on home batteries until 31 March 2027.
Whether it’s a family home in St John’s or a workshop in Warndon, a battery does the same job: it keeps the solar power you don’t use straight away for when you need it. We size it to how and when you use electricity.

Shops, offices and workshops use a lot of power in daylight, but not all of it. A battery carries the spare into the hours when the sun is low.
Plenty of Worcester business units, garages and extensions have flat roofs. Panels on low frames work well there, and they can face east and west to spread generation across the working day.
That matters for a battery: a business that uses power steadily through the day needs less storage than one that’s busiest early and late. We size it to your pattern, not a rule of thumb.

Worcester’s network is run by National Grid Electricity Distribution. Here’s what decides the paperwork.
Systems up to 16A per phase are notified after they’re installed.
Above that, we apply first and wait for approval before connecting.
Many business units have a three-phase supply, which changes what can connect.
Sometimes a bigger system can go ahead by limiting what it sends to the grid.

More for Worcester homes
Business batteries, VAT, weekends, flat roofs and free advice: here’s what Worcester customers ask us.
Yes. Shops, offices, workshops and small industrial units can use a battery to carry daytime solar into the early morning or evening, when they’re open but the sun is low.
Yes. The 0% rate is for batteries installed in homes. Business installations are charged VAT at the standard rate, which VAT-registered businesses can usually reclaim. Check with your accountant.
Only a little. Batteries are sized to move power within a day or so, not to hold a whole weekend’s output. If your premises are closed at weekends, most of that solar will still go to the grid, where it can earn through the Smart Export Guarantee. We size the battery around your working week.
Yes. Many Worcester business units and extensions have flat roofs. Panels on low frames at 10° make about 3,620 kWh a year per 4 kWp facing south, a little less than a pitched roof, and can face east and west to spread generation across the day.
